LiquidPiston Engine: Compressor Prototype

Below is a trial operation of the compressor. This operation represents a significant portion of the engine, and demonstrates the feasibility of not only the compressor, but the expander as well - as they operate in very similar ways.

The compressor operates easily at 600-800 psi, which exceeds the desired compression ratio of 17:1 to 20:1, with compressed air temperature reaching 600 - 750 degrees F.

The end of the video below shows what happens when the RPM is increased - a peak pressure of up to 1500 PSI without any seals ! This peak pressure measurement represents a compression ratio greater than 32:1, and appears to be limited by the pressure guage itself, not by the compressor.
