Position Description 

As Mechanical Engineer, you will work with the company founder and CTO in a broad range of development related activities in an R&D program aimed to bring a breakthrough rotary diesel engine design to life. The candidate will be responsible for detailed technical work to support the company in the execution of its technology roadmap, serving as a team member of a growing engineering team when the company ramps toward production. 

The Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Create and modify models in SolidWorks
  • Create parts from SolidWorks models, including detailing, producing detailed shop ready drawings, and communicating with machine shops
  • Specify and procure off-the-shelf components
  • Direct a technician and participate in the hands-on construction/assembly of parts and purchased components to produce a working prototype
  • Conduct experiments and tests to verify concept viability
  • Assist in debugging experimental hardware and measurement equipment, together with the technician
  • Document results through patent applications, technical reports and publications.
  • Work with the CTO to communicate these results to follow-on investors. 
Requirements 

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree or BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree with a minimum 3 years experience, including design and analysis of mechanisms.
  • Proven record of innovation in machine/mechanism design
  • Specific design experience with SolidWorks and analysis experience in FEA/Motion/Thermal analysis package, CosmosDesigner preferable.
  • Excellent work ethics and ability to work well in a small team environment.

Helpful Skills:

  • Specific experience with advanced rotary and piston engine technologies (exhaust gas recirculation, Miller cycle and HCCI, etc).
  • Knowledge of cams, bearings and general, high-speed machinery is very useful.
  • Experience with engine analysis codes (GT-Power, KIVA, etc).
  • Good communication and proposal writing skills.
  • Experience working with shops in a prototyping environment
